Roskamp Institute hosts Open House honoring Veterans and Military

The Roskamp Institute will be hosting its annual Open House honoring veterans and military personnel on November 10. 

The event, which is open to the public will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., showcasing Institute research and clinical programs of particular relevance to veterans and military personnel, including Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Gulf War Illness (GWI) and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  Following the presentations will be tours of the Institute laboratories and a luncheon with the faculty.  Vist the 2016 Open House page for more information.

Aubrey Kilduff , a 2015-16 Roskamp Institute high school student intern is a 2016 Sarasota Regional Science, Engineering and Technology Fair award winner. She used some of the results from her research with Dr. Rad Tzekov, who leads our Vision Research Program in neurodegenerative diseases, to create the project "Effects of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury on the Visual System in Mice".  She won The Dart Foundation Award for Medicine & Health and $1,000.  In addition, her project is a finalist for the 2016 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (the world's largest international pre-college science competition) in Phoenix, AZ.

Cheryl Brandi
Dr. Cheryl Brandi of the Roskamp Institute Clinic discusses signs of normal aging - and signs of potential concern - at Kobernick University on Tuesday afternoon. About 50 people attended the presentation, "Is My Forgetfulness Normal?", by Brandi, DNSc, ARNP, NP-C, nurse practitioner for the Roskamp Institute Clinic. Dr. Brandi is committed to raising community awareness of early signs and symptoms of memory disorders in order to promote screening, early diagnosis and timely intervention for disorders such as Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer's Dementia.

An article about an Alzheimer's Disease clinical trial, with one of the clinical study sites being at The Roskamp Institute, has been published by Herald-Tribune health reporter Barbara Peters Smith. It is titled: At Sarasota's Roskamp Institute, a new drug is on trial.

Parkinson's Desease Clinical Trails
The American Parkinson Disease Association has produced a webinar on PD. Information about it and a link to watch is below. The Roskamp Institute has multiple ongoing clinical study trials. Welcome to the Roskamp

The Roskamp Institute is devoted to understanding causes of and finding cures for neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders and addictions. Based in Sarasota, Florida, the Institute utilizes a broad range of scientific approaches to understanding the causes of and potential therapies for these disorders with an emphasis on Alzheimer's disease.

The Mission of The Roskamp Institute is to conduct scientific research to discover safe and effective new drug therapies to successfully treat diseases of the mind and to promote healthy aging.

Headed by Dr. Fiona Crawford, the institute employs experienced and interdisciplinary scientists and technicians and houses state-of-the-art research labs and equipment to conduct scientific research.
